More from the Artist in the Family

Last year we shared a few of Talia’s pieces that had found a home on our walls. Today, we’re highlighting some of the other works we’ve framed and live with every day and that reflect her wide range of subjects, materials, and moods.

Fruit Studies (with Commentary)

A series of fruit illustrations anchors this group: oranges, cantaloupe, peach, mango, lemon, golden raspberries, blueberries, blackberries—along with a pointed question about black currants.

Each sheet is dated and labeled in Talia’s handwriting, often accompanied by candid tasting notes. These pages feel part botanical study, part personal journal. They’re among my favorites, in no small part because some of the commentary is so… colorful. Honest, occasionally blunt, and very much her voice.

Beyond the humor, there’s careful attention to detail in the watercolor and ink work. And for us, fruit carries its own resonance. In wine, everything begins in the vineyard. Ripeness, acidity, texture all start with the fruit in the vineyard. Having these studies on our walls is a quiet nod to that foundation.

A Still Life

A single apple sits against a dark, saturated background. It’s a classic still life, with a strong shadow and careful attention to light. It’s restrained and composed, a study in contrast and depth.

Award-Winning Sushi

The sushi painting brings a different energy with bold outlines, confident color blocks, and exaggerated texture in the rice. It has a graphic immediacy that makes it stand out.

We were especially proud when this piece received an award from her high school, and loved seeing her work recognized beyond our own walls.

A Self-Portrait and a Landscape

A mixed-media self-portrait layered over printed text explores mood through color and movement. The composition feels expressive and layered, with the underlying text adding depth without dictating meaning.

Finally, a landscape rendered in muted greens and grays: mountains rising behind still water, with a small boat cutting across the foreground amidst reflections carefully inked. It’s quiet and atmospheric, almost meditative.

We love that her artwork reflects experimentation across subject matter and style. Some focus on close observation, others on texture, composition, or mood. Living with them day to day has been a gift. Her art is a reminder of her curiosity, growth, and creative exploration.

We’re grateful to have them on our walls as part of the everyday environment that shapes our family life, much like wine shapes the work we do here.

If you liked this post, you might also enjoy seeing some of Talia’s other artwork.
