At Long Last—Announcing Our Winery’s Name!

Before today, we used “Boat House 42 Blog” as a kind of holding pattern, and a small hint of what was next. Finally, we’ve got news!

We held off on making this announcement until we’d checked off all the legal boxes. But now, after months of quiet work, we’re finally ready to share the name of our winery:

Navinnus Forty Two Cellars

Our winery, Navinnus 42, began with a wooden sailboat-turned-bar at our home on Cayuga Lake.  When we bought the lake house in October 2020, the boat bar was one of those small, unexpected features that sticks with you. When we eventually began thinking about creating a winery, it became the starting point for a name that felt grounded in place and genuinely connected to our story.

The name draws from three Latin roots that mirror our path.

Navis means ship, a nod to the sailboat bar that inspired this name.

Vin comes from vinum, the Latin root for wine, grounding the name in what we are creating.

Innus is a Latin-inspired element that reflects the spirit of the boat bar itself. Like an inn, it’s a small, welcoming place where people naturally gather, much like they do around wine in the Finger Lakes.

Finally, Forty Two is a nod to our home just north of the 42nd parallel in the Finger Lakes, a region whose cool-climate character continues to shape both our wines and our path.

What began with a small boat bar in a lakeside home on Cayuga Lake turned into something far more intentional: learning the region, studying the craft, and creating wines that reflect a sense of place and the evolution that brought us here.

With the name now official, our website is live, and you can learn more about our story, our philosophy, and the wines currently fermenting.

Explore it here and follow along as this next chapter unfolds. Thanks for coming along on our journey!

Cheers from the lake,
